국민방위군 사건 (1950-1951)

국민방위군 사건은 한국 전쟁중 1951년 1월 1·4 후퇴 때 제2국민병으로 편성된 국민방위군 고위 장교들이 국고금과 군수물자를 부정처분하여 착복함으로써 12월~2월 사이에 500,000명에 달하는 국민방위군으로 징집된 이들 가운데 아사자, 병사자, 동사자가 약 50,000-90,000여명에 이르렸고 동상으로 인해 손가락과 발가락 뿐만아니라 손과발까지 절단난 200,000여명이 넘는 동상자들을 이르게 한 사건을 말한다.

The National Defense Corps Incident (1950-1951)

The National Defense Corps Incident was a death march that occurred in the winter of 1951 during the Korean War. On 11 December 1950, South Korea issued an act establishing the National Defense Corps. South Korean citizens aged 17 to 40, excluding military, police and government officials, were drafted into the National Defense Corps. The Syngman Rhee government adopted officers from Great Korean Young Adults Association, which was a pro-Rhee Syngman group, into the Corps.
