애덤 스미스 (1723-1790)

애덤 스미스는 스코틀랜드 출신의 영국의 정치경제학자이자 윤리철학자이다. 후대의 여러 분야에 큰 영향을 미친 '국부론'의 저자이다. 고전경제학의 대표적인 이론가인 스미스는 일반적으로 경제학의 아버지로 여겨지며 자본주의와 자유무역에 대한 이론적 심화를 제공했다. 애덤 스미스의 '보이지 않는 손'만큼 중요한 주장 중 하나는 그의 '노동 가치설'이다. 애덤 스미스는 모든 부가가치는 노동 일반에서 나온다고 생각하였다. 그의 가치 분석은 마르크스의 잉여 가치론에 큰 영향을 주었다.

Adam Smith (1723-1790)

Adam Smith was a Scottish economist, philosopher and author as well as a moral philosopher, a pioneer of political economy and a key figure during the Scottish Enlightenment. Smith is best known for two classic works, The Theory of Moral Sentiments (1759) and An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations (1776). The latter, usually abbreviated as The Wealth of Nations, is considered his magnum opus and the first modern work of economics.
