주체사상탑(主體思想塔)

주체사상과 김일성의 위대성을 상징하는 대형 구조물로서 김일성 탄생 70돌을 기념하여 1982년 4월 15일에 제막되었다. 이 구조물은 170m 높이의 세계에서 제일 높은 석탑으로 평가되며, 평양시 대동강변에 위치하고 있다. 주체사상탑은 150m의 흰색화강암의 기단과 탑신위에 20m 높이의 횃불모양의 봉화탑이 있다. 봉화탑은 직경 11m의 붉은색 유리로 제작되어 있으며, 특수조명장치를 갖추어 밤에도 타오르는 불길의 형상을 하고 있다. 탑신은 김주석의 탄생 70주년을 기념하는 의미에서 70개의 단으로 구성되어 있다.

Juche Tower (170m)

The Juche Tower is situated on the east bank of the River Taedong, directly opposite Kim Il-sung Square on the west bank. It was built to commemorate Kim Il-sung's 70th birthday. Although his son and successor Kim Jong-il is officially credited as its designer,[1] interviews with former North Korean officials contradict this assertion.
