반 고흐 미술관

반 고흐 미술관은 ​​네덜란드 암스테르담에 있는 빈센트 반 고흐의 작품을 중심으로 한 미술관이다.

Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum is a Dutch art museum dedicated to the works of Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries in Amsterdam; it is located at the Museum Square in the borough Amsterdam South, close to the Stedelijk Museum, the Rijksmuseum, and the Concertgebouw. The museum opened on 2 June 1973, and its buildings were designed by Gerrit Rietveld and Kisho Kurokawa.

빈센트 반 고흐 (1853-1890)

1853년 네덜란드에서 태어난 반 고흐는 처음에는 목사를 꿈꾸며 가난한 광부들에게 복음을 전하기도 했으나, 27세라는 늦은 나이에 본격적으로 화가의 길로 들어섰다. 그는 불과 10년 남짓한 짧은 활동 기간 동안 2,100여 점의 작품을 쏟아낼 만큼 예술에 온 영혼을 불태웠다. 초기에는 <감자 먹는 사람들>처럼 어둡고 투박한 화풍을 보였으나, 이후 파리에서 인상주의를 접하고 프랑스 남부 아를로 이주하면서 밝고 강렬한 노란색 중심의 화풍을 완성했다. 그의 삶은 지독한 가난과 정신적 고통으로 점철되었고, 생전에는 단 한 점의 그림밖에 팔지 못할 정도로 대중의 인정을 받지 못했다. 하지만 동생 테오와의 깊은 우정과 후원 덕분에 예술혼을 이어갔으며, <별이 빛나는 밤>, <해바라기> 같은 불후의 명작들을 남겼다. 1890년 37세의 나이로 짧은 생을 마감한 뒤에야 비로소 그의 작품은 야수파와 표현주의의 뿌리가 되었고, 오늘날 인류 역사상 가장 위대한 예술가 중 한 명이다.
