주제 사라마구 (1922-2010)

주제 드 소자 사라마구는 노벨 문학상을 수상한 포르투갈의 소설가이자 언론인이다. 우화적으로 보일 수도 있는 그의 작품들은, 대개 현재의 체제를 전복시키는 역사적 사건을 조명함으로써 인간의 본성을 역설하였다. 1998년 95번째 노벨 문학상을 수상하였으며, 2010년 지병으로 인한 다발성 장기 부전으로 세상을 떠났다.

Jose Saramago (1922-2010)

José de Sousa Saramagowas a Portuguese writer and recipient of the 1998 Nobel Prize in Literature for his "parables sustained by imagination, compassion and irony continually enables us once again to apprehend an elusory reality." His works, some of which can be seen as allegories, commonly present subversive perspectives on historic events, emphasizing the theopoetic human factor. In 2003 Harold Bloom described Saramago as "the most gifted novelist alive in the world today" and in 2010 said he considers Saramago to be "a permanent part of the Western canon", while James Wood praises "the distinctive tone to his fiction because he narrates his novels as if he were someone both wise and ignorant."
