홍루몽

《홍루몽》은 18세기 중반 청나라 중기 건륭제 때 쓰인 구어체의 중국 장편소설의 최고 걸작이다. 작가는 조설근이라는 것이 정설이지만, 다른 사람이 쓴 소설이라는 설도 있다. 《삼국연의》（삼국지）, 《수호전》, 《서유기》와 동시에 중국 4대 명저 중 하나로 꼽힌다. 청나라 말기 홍루몽을 전문적으로 연구한 학문을 홍학이라고 하고, 이 말은 현대에도 사용된다.

Dream of the Red Chamber

Dream of the Red Chamber is one of China's Four Great Classical Novels. It was written sometime in the middle of the 18th century during the Qing dynasty. Long considered a masterpiece of Chinese literature, the novel is generally acknowledged to be the pinnacle of Chinese fiction. "Redology" is the field of study devoted exclusively to this work.
